INTRODUCTION
This is an emotional, uplifting story about a young man seeking a summer job and mountain adventures, who unexpectedly forms a tense relationship with a spirited young woman. They both find jobs at Maligne Lake in the summer of 1968. He wants an exciting job, freedom, and the thrill of climbing mountains. She is focused on her first real job. Their close quarters in the stunning wilderness make it difficult to avoid each other.
Turquois-coloured Maligne Lake is nestled high in the Rocky Mountains of Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. The lake includes the world-famous Spirit Island. Two competing lodges sit on the north end of the lake. Behind the lodges, nestled in the trees, are the living quarters for the staff who run the restaurants, cabins, buses, and tour boats that ply the length of the twenty-three-kilometre lake.
This is a period piece where the culture and music of the time is very prominent. It enriches the lives of the staff in their work and relationships. It makes it a captivating, beautiful story.
